2017 ANNUAL GENEALOGY LOCK-IN:
In celebration of October as Family History Month, the Groesbeck Public Library will join the Genealogy Network of Texas (GNT) for a collaborative event on
Friday, October 20th from 10:30a.m. to 9:30p.m.
The GNT is a state-wide initiative to connect libraries and provide educational and research opportunities and is spearheaded by the Genealogy Center of the Waco-McLennan County Library. The GNT will provide a series of eight live streamed programs with up-to-date topics accessible at participating libraries and genealogical societies.
Programming includes something for everyone.
· 11am – 11:50am- Orphan Train Riders: Tracks to Texas & Beyond, All Aboard 1854 to 1929 with Paula Perkins kicks off the event.
· 12pm – 1:30pm- Beginner’s Guide to Documenting Your Family History with LaToya Devezin of the Austin History Center from can get you started or refresh you knowledge.
· 1:40pm – 2:40pm- Discover Local History through a Regional Depository with Laura Saegert of the Texas State Library & Archives from will address TSLAC’s regional depository program.
· 2:50pm – 3:50pm- My Texans during the Republic with Sharon Farnsworth answers questions about your Texas Republic era ancestors.
· 4:00pm– 5:00pm- Connecting Your DNA Matches with Diahan Southard from DNA is a hot topic, so don’t miss out!
· 6:00pm – 7:00pm- Researching Your Czech Immigrant Ancestor’s Background in the Old Fatherland with Dr. Miroslav Koudelka from the Czech Republic from
· 7:00pm – 8:10pm- Get the Scoop on Your Ancestors with Newspapers with Lisa Louise Cooke.
· 8:20pm – 9:30pm- Discovering Your WWI Ancestor: Sources & Resources with Earl Pogue winds up the evening.
The Groesbeck Public Library will open at 10:30am, and programming will begin at 11am, until 9:30pm. The genealogy research room and resources will be accessible throughout the entire program. Complimentary refreshments will be available throughout, along with door prizes. There will be a dinner break from 5pm to 6pm, during which various finger foods will be available.
